Set Up

Create a small playing area and split your team up into 2 teams. Start the game with a 2v2 on one side of the field, and on the far side, add in 2 offensive players on the team that’s currently starting on defense. Once the live 2v2 game is played with a shot, save, or turnover, the defense must transition the ball to the offense on the other half of the field. The team who just played offense must get back on defense to try and slow down the quick break. While that’s happening, 2 new offensive players will slide on the opposite side (where it started) and be ready for play to come back. So players will play offense, then defense, then. they are out

RULE: The goalie cannot make a full field pass to the players waiting. It must break first to a teammate who just played defense.

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Play fast!  Transition play we want to move the ball quick with good transition passing
  • Defense we want to work on our recoveries in transition, working inside out trying to slow dow the quick breaks

Progressions

  • play 3v3 or 4v4
