3 Player 2 Ball GB Keep Away

Set Up

Put 3 lines on the side of the field, or inside a playing area you designate. 2 of the 1st 3 players in line will start with a ball. On whistle, the 2 balls will be rolled out, try to shoot for 5-10 yards (not too far or short). All balls are live for any player to get. 1 Player will normally win a clean ground ball, and will pass back to the next teammate in line that they started. The other 2 players will be battling for the other ball. Whoever loses, is on defense, and the 2 winning players will stay on the field and play keep away. Try to make sure on defense, you play the ball, and not shut off a single player.

Coaching Point and Principles

  • Groundballs! Find a ball and win it. Accelerate through to win possession
  • Stick work and finding space. Once you are in 2v1 scenario, we want the offesnive players to find/move to space for clean passing lanes

Progressions

  • Add in more lines/balls
  • Young players (u8/u10) just have them win a ground ball and bring back to their line
