Summary

3v2 Ground Ball Battle is a physical, competitive small-area game for all skill levels that develops ground-ball toughness, quick decision-making, and the ability to capitalize on offensive advantages in tight spaces.

SET UP

Set up three offensive lines and two defensive lines at GLE, playing inside the girls’ 12-meter arc (or 8-meter for tighter play). The coach rolls in a live ground ball to start the 3v2. The offense must secure possession, move the ball quickly, and create a shot, while the defense works to protect the crease and clear the ball outside the arc. Play three consecutive ground-ball reps with the same group before rotating in new players.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Compete for Ground Balls: Both sides must play physically, establish body position, and battle to secure possession.

  • Recognize the Advantage: Offensively, get your head up immediately, move the ball quickly, and capitalize on the 3v2 before defenders can recover.

  • Protect the Crease: Defensively, communicate, protect the middle, and force difficult shots while looking for opportunities to win possession and clear.
