Groundballs to the Sideline

A good drill to work on ground balls when near the sidelines, and using body control to gain possession

Set Up

Put your players in lines, in groups of 4-6 players, about 5-8 yards away from the sideline. The second player will roll the ball lightly to the sideline, and the first player in line must go get the groundball and gain possession without stepping out of bounds. Once controlled they will pass the ball to the second player in line and repeat for 5-8 minutes,

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Control your body, as you accelerate through, you need to change direction so you stay in bounds
  • If the ball is about to roll out of bounds, use your stick to stop it, and then scoop and go

Progressions

  • Make it 1v1 so there is an opponent behind the player trying to get the ball
