A good ground ball drill that works on moving the ball quickly out of a possession winning GB

Set Up

Put players in 3 lines about 5-8 yards away from each other. It starts with coach rolling a ball to the middle line. The outside players will run in tandem, and the player who scoops it can make a pass to either wing. That player will catch and make a quick pass across the field to the other wing, who will then make a pass back to a goalie near where the lines started

2nd Progression – Add a chaser the middle line (token defense). After that first pass to a wing, the new defender will try to knock down or intercept the 2nd pass through the middle

Coaching Points & Progressions

  • Ground Balls – Accelerate through!
  • Eyes Up – As soon as we win the ground ball, eyes up and move to a teammate quickly
  • Quick Passing – Move the ball fast throughout the drill
  • with defender – Move to an open passing lane off ball, need to move feet!

Progressions

  • Shorten the field and force even quicker passes while playing full speed
  • Make field bigger and wider if want longer passes
