Set Up |
Focus Points |
A great shooting drill to emphasize Attacking right off the pass and getting down hill with our shot on the run
Set Up
Put 2 lines on the high wigs with balls, and a cone in the top center between the two. Add in 2 more cones down each alley, with the second cone being more inside towards the cage. Players will start by getting to the high center cone, and receive a pass from the opposite line. As soon as they catch the ball, they attack the opposite side alley. They should be loaded by the time they get to the first cone, and finishing downhill towards the cage and that inner second cone.
Coaching Points & Principles
progressions
|
|
- We want the catch and attack quickly when e change sides of the field
- Shooting on the run – Getting downhill back towards the cage as we finish out shot
- Play fast!

Throwback Passing – Roll Away & QB Passing - Link to Drill
- 10 Minutes
|
Set Up |
Focus Points |
A passing drill to warm with before practice!
Set Up
Put players in the sidelines, in groups of 4 or 5. You can place a cone about 8 yards away for consistent spacing or you can use the lines not he field. We will do various progressions but for this drill we are working on curls and qb passes
Do each rep for about 1-2 minutes, and then change hands
Coaching Points and Principles
- Stickwork, we want to make sure the players are protecting their stick, and not hanging in on the curl/roll back
- Good passes – players should be under control making good passes to their teammates.
- Players in line should be waiting for the ball with their sticks up as a target
- Communicate
Progressions
- Have players start with a ground ball
- make cones further apart for a longer pass
|
|
- Curls/Roll Away – When player approaches the end point, they will pop their hands/stick out and away from body, exchange hands and make a pass to their teammate
- QB Passes – As the player approaches the end point, they will bounce out like a quarterback in football, opening up their hips, and stepping to their teammate for a pass. We are not Exchanging hands here

1v1 Scoop and Chase - Link to Drill
- 10 Minutes
|
Set Up |
Focus Points |
A classic ground ball that is a great warm up for practice
Set Up
Put players in groups of 5 or 6 on sideline. The first player in line is going for the groundball, and the 2nd player is chaser. The ball is rolled out, and the player must gain possession and throw the ball back to their next teammate in line. The chaser should put pressure on back hands with a LIFT, not a slap. You can have the 3rd player be the one who rolls, if you don’t have enough coaches.
Coaching Points & Principles
|
|
- Groundballs – Accelerate through and run away from pressure.
- Chasers – Practice getting under the blow or hand of player going for groundball, and lifting. We want to avoid big slap checks
- Communicate – next player in line call for the ball

- 20 Minutes
|
Set Up |
Focus Points |
A full field drill that works on face-offs early offense, unsettled situations, and team defense
Set Up
Using the full field, set up 3 attack and 3 defense in each end. Put a midfield line of each team on both wings of the field. The game starts with a face-off & the players on wing. Once the F/O player wins and gets the ball to a wing teammate, or a wing player gains control, they will continue playing 5v5 on one end of the field. The 2 face off players will exit the game once possession starts with a wing teammate. While that is happening, coach will reward the team who won, and another midfielder from the same team will take a ball and start a fast break on the other end of the field.
Coaching Points and Principles
