Roll Dodge Principles: Mastering Directional Changes and Control

A roll dodge in is used to protect the stick and change direction when a defender closes with pressure leading with their stick. As the defender approaches, the ball carrier lowers their center of gravity and initiates contact or proximity with the shoulder, using the body to shield the stick.

The player then rotates smoothly, rolling away from the defender while keeping the stick tight and protected throughout the movement. The hips and shoulders turn together, allowing the player to change direction without losing balance or exposing the ball. The roll should stay compact and controlled, not wide or drifting.

After completing the roll, the player re-accelerates into space with eyes up to read the next play. A successful roll dodge under pressure combines balance, body control, and timing, turning defensive pressure into separation and opportunity.
