Skill Session: Step Down Shooting

The foundational elements to our step down shot, explained

Often times we get too technical with shooting, and in reality we want players to develop a shot that fits their size, body, and strength. As you get older and development, you will be able to find new ways to enhance your step down shot, so we have put together these foundational elements for shooting.

  1. Have a good base, get your shoulders and hips pointed to the target with your weight slightly on back leg
  2. Get hand/arms in a comfortable position, we call it the “Loaded Position”
  3. Drive off the back leg, and pull with your anchor hand
  4. Release the stick with control hand snapping, feel like your knuckles are driving into the ground
