The Question Mark Dodge
The question mark dodge is used when attacking up the hash or on the island in a 5v5 situation, where space and timing are critical. The dodger begins by driving hard upfield, forcing the defender to turn and run while protecting top-side positioning. This initial push sells speed and direction, drawing the defender’s hips and momentum forward.
As the defender commits, the dodger plants the inside foot and creates quick separation, changing direction sharply and popping the outside foot & stick to sideline. The hips and shoulders rotate together as the player curls back, creating separation while keeping the stick protected from checks. The movement traces a question-mark shape, combining speed, deceleration, and redirection.
To finish, the dodger, using balance and body control, will drive off the inside foot and get hips and shoulders driving back to the goal. When executed with proper spacing and patience, the question mark dodge is an effective way to beat a defender on the island and attack high-quality scoring areas.
