Set Up

Put 1 line with balls on the low wing, and another line on the crease. The drill initiates with the player carrying the ball up the hash, while at the same time the player on crease popping up and off the crease. At this point, the coach will either slide to the ball carrier or to the crease player. If the coach slides to ball carrier, they make a pass to their teammate for a step-down shot up top. If the coach slides to the player popping off crease, they will execute a backdoor cut getting a pass back on the crease for an inside finish.

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Ball carrier carry the ball protected, add another coach in if you have it guarding the the ball carrier
  • When read to make the pass, we want them to bounce away getting their hands free
  • The Pop player should always have their stick up as a target, ready to catch the ball either way.
  • If backdoor cut, get stick in front of you leading as target, not behind

Progressions

  • Add different areas of the field to play from
  • Make every shot different
  • Add a coach to the ball carrier with light pressure
  • Finishing the ball – good step down principles and inside finishes
