Step Downs and Trash Shots

Set Up

Put a line on the low Goal Line Extended w/ balls and a line up on the high wing. Add a mix of balls in front of the goal on the ground. Start with the a player in the low line, passing the ball up for a step down shot. Once they make the pass, and player make their shot, that low wing player will go find a ground ball and finish inside.

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Step Down Shots – Get in a. ready position and try to catch it loaded for a quick release shot
  • Trash Goals – accelerate through the ground ball and finish quickly

Progressions

  • Make high wing a shot on the run
  • Have the trash can shots be hockey shots, no scoop but more of a “goose” into the goal
