The Foundation of Shooting in Lacrosse
Strong shooting fundamentals are built on three simple principles that work together to create consistency and control.
First is hand/arm placement. Thy should be comfortable and positioned away from the body, but not locked too close or extended too far. Proper spacing allows the stick to move freely, keeps the shot compact, and helps the player generate speed without forcing the motion.
Second is weight exchange. Power and balance come from transferring weight smoothly from the back foot to the front foot as the shot is released. This shift allows the body to stay connected and controlled, rather than relying only on the arms.
Third is the release. The top hand snaps and releases the ball with the wrists, creating acceleration and accuracy. A clean release finishes the shot and allows the player to shoot with speed, deception, and consistency.
