Goalie Off Hip Punch Drill

Summary

A great drill to work on goalie hand speed and off stick saves

Set Up

The goalie starts on their knees on one side of the goal, isolating the upper body. The coach shoots lacrosse or tennis balls, and the goalie works on punching their top hand through to make off-hip saves. This drill sharpens hand speed and reinforces strong stick movement without relying on lower-body positioning.

Coach Points & Principles

  • Punch that top hand down and through
  • If you can secure th ball great, but try to make the block as best as possible

Use tennis balls and do rapid fire, faster shots
