The Back Wrap is used when an offensive player changes direction and leaves their stick exposed behind them. As they change direction, use a controlled one-handed wrap check to attack the exposed stick. The key is to check and recover at the same time, pivot and drop-step as you throw the check so you remain balanced and can immediately recover if you don’t dislodge the ball.
- Recognize the opportunity — look for the stick hanging behind the offensive player as they change direction.
- Stay balanced — don’t lunge or overextend to make the check.
- Wrap with one hand — use a quick, controlled motion to attack the exposed stick.
- Pivot with the check — turn your hips as you throw the wrap.
- Drop-step to recover — gain depth and prepare to run with the offensive player.
- Check & recover together — the check and footwork should happen simultaneously.
- Don’t chase the check — if you miss, you should already be in position to continue defending.
