Proper Lacrosse Cradling Technique for Youth Players
Effective cradling starts with relaxed hands and balanced body position. The top hand controls the stick with the fingers and wrist, allowing the head of the stick to move smoothly rather than forcing the motion. The bottom hand stays loose and supportive, helping guide the stick while maintaining balance and control.
Cradling is created by a small, rhythmic wrist motion that keeps the ball secure in the pocket without excessive movement. The stick should stay in a comfortable position in front of the body, with the head slightly angled so gravity and pocket depth work together to protect the ball.
As players move, cradling should stay compact and efficient. When running or changing direction, the hands stay relaxed, the elbows stay close to the body, and the cradle adjusts subtly to maintain control while keeping the stick protected from defenders.
