Defensive Body & Stick Positioning (Holstered): Mastering Control and Disruption

Being holstered means keeping the stick controlled and connected to the body while maintaining strong defensive position. The defender’s anchor hand is around their hip pocket area, with the stick extended or reaching. This keeps the defender balanced, compact, and ready to move their feet first.

When holstered, the defender prioritizes body position and angles over stick checks. The feet, hips, and shoulders stay square to the offensive player, allowing quick lateral movement and clean recovery if the offense changes direction. By keeping the stick in tight, defenders reduce the risk of overreaching, getting beat on a dodge, or losing balance.

A holstered position allows defenders to stay patient, absorb contact if needed, and apply pressure at the right moment. Once balance and positioning are established, the stick can then extend naturally to disrupt passing lanes or finish a check without sacrificing control.
