Skill Session: Goalie Hand Positioning & Grip

Goalie Hand Positioning & Grip: Enhancing Stick Control

In this session, goalies focus on proper hand positioning and grip for optimal stick control. The top hand should wrap around the plastic of the stick, not the shaft, ensuring a secure and comfortable grip. Goalies are reminded to keep their head steady and avoid unnecessary movement. The bottom hand’s position will vary based on the goalie’s size, with about 6-8 inches of space between the hands on the shaft. This positioning improves stick handling and overall control in the crease.
