The Slide & Recover is about completing the defensive rotation after you play or help on the ball. Once the offensive player moves the ball, immediately transition from sliding to recovering. Open your body so you can see both your original player and the new ball carrier, while getting your stick up and to the inside to take away dangerous passing lanes toward the middle and crease.
- Recover immediately — once the ball moves, your job changes from helping to recovering.
- Open your body — position yourself so you can see both your player and the new ball carrier.
- Stick up & inside — get your stick toward the middle of the field and into the passing lane.
- Protect the crease — recover inside-out rather than chasing directly back to your player.
- Take away easy inside passes — make feeds to the crease difficult or impossible.
- Discourage skip passes — an active stick can disrupt passes across the defense.
- See ball & man — maintain vision of both as you recover.
- Recover with urgency — sprint into position, then regain control and balance.
