Stationary Mix-Up Shooting is designed to help players develop a consistent and adaptable shot release from a variety of body and foot positions.
Set Up
Players remain stationary but change their lower-body setup before each shot, using positions such as a split stance, narrow stance, wide stance, feet crossed, or other intentionally awkward positions. From each setup, players focus on getting loaded, rotating through their core and upper body, driving their hands, and finishing the shot.
By changing the position of the legs, players learn to separate their shooting mechanics from perfect footwork and develop a better feel for the release. In games, shooters rarely catch the ball with their feet perfectly set, so becoming comfortable generating an efficient shooting motion from different positions can make players more adaptable.
Coaching Points & principle
- The emphasis is on feeling the load, rotation, hand path, stick release, and follow-through while discovering how to produce a consistent shot even when the lower body is compromised.
- Keeping body under control, don’t worry about targets, that’s 2nd progressions
