Set Up

You can execute this anywhere on the field, place 2 players about 8-10 yards apart in a surround goal scoring area. Add a coach in the middle as a guided defender. Start the ball with 1 player carrying it towards their teammate. Try to maintain the spacing while drifting so the ball who receives the ball has room to execute. As player A is carrying the ball, the coach will hedge (fake slide) forcing player to recognize and make a pass. Once the pass is made, coach will either hold or slide hard to the player receiving ball. If coach holds, player receiving pass will take a quick step down shot. If coach slides hard to the ball, the player will exchange hands to maintain stick protection, and shoot down on the run.

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Maintain spacing, and drift in a direction that still makes you a threat
  • Recognition – see the slides and make a decision based on it
  • Finish – Focus on finishing the ball in scoring areas (columns)

Progressions

  • go live with a defender
  • add in hitches (see drill video) to player receiving ball
