Set Up
Split the players up into 2 teams, and play on one end of the field. On both sides of the restraining boxes, add in 3 lines of each colors, alternating, giving each line a number. Coach will be up top with all the balls and will trigger the start of game with names what lines are in, and a live ground ball. Coaches can use any numbers, 1-4, 7-9, etc.. The team that wins the ground ball, is on offense, but before they can attack the gaol, they must make a pass to a bumper player on the opposite side of the field, they started in. That bumper player is now in play, changing the situation on the field. If the defense turns the ball over, they can pass to a bumper player and now play on offense. This is a quick, live action game, where players are reading and reacting to the situation fluidly.
Coaching Points and Principles
- Win Ground balls
- Play off ball, move to space offensively
- Players with the ball, draw a defender and move the ball quick
- Defense should be getting into their base principles based on scenarios (Man to man vs Zone when player down)
- Game IQ – make sure to get players to think about reacting quickly and communicating
Progressions
- Shrink the lines (2 on each side)
- Add in constraints – must make off ball picks after bumper gets ball
