A shooting drill that works on a principle getting to the middle of the field

Set Up

Put players on the wing and a line on lower goal line adjacent with Balls. Add a coach on the crease (or a player if you want it to flow during team shooting). The ball starts with a pass up to the wing, and while the ball is in the air, the defender on crease will take either a high or low approach angle. The offensive player should read the defender, and attack the space the defender give up. The 2nd element is getting a gold medal shot, we want to always try to get out body or stick to the middle of the field. So if the player ends up attacking the alley, we want to try to improve our shooting angle as best we can.

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Dodging – Reading the defender and attacking the space
  • Shooting – On the run through the middle, or down the alley / getting out stick to the middle of the field
  • Gold medal Shots – reinforce the principle of trying to get to the middle when we dodge

Progressions

  • Set up at different coding areas
  • Play light defense (trail check)
