Set Up

Put 2 Attack players on the crease, a line of defense at the lower retraining line, and a line of midfielders at the opposite far side midfield line. There will be a goalie in the low corner, or at X with the balls. The drill starts with the goalie passing a ball to a defender. When the defender receives the ball, they will start moving up field, and a midfielder form the opposite sit will cut towards their teammate to receive a pass. We want the midfielder to catch and pass the ball quickly to the lower attack player curing for the ball. The attack will make 1 pass, and finish with a shot. Simultaneously, the midfielder will continue cutting to the goal to receive a pass from the Goalie/Coach for a transition shot.

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Clearing and Long passes – Make sure we are moving our feet!
  • Players receiving the passes, cut and move to the ball
  • Shooting – Finish with an inside shot from the attacker, and a shot on the run or step down from the midfield

Progressions

  • Add in 2 defense the drill covering the attackmen. After the midfielder gets the pass, they will come down and play a 3v2
