Set Up

Put a line of players on the low goal line extended with all the balls, and a line of players on the crease. Add a Coach or a guided defender to the middle crease area. The line with the balls will carry up to the “island” or 5×5. At the same time, the player on the crease will be popping off high like they want a pass supporting their teammate. Coach will either slide to the ball carrier or the popper.

  • If Coach slides to ball carrier, the popper will get a step down shot from the top
  • If Coach slides to popper, they will backdoor cut and receive a pass on the crease

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Passer – when they get to the 5×5, make sure they bounce away to act like they are getting their hands free
  • Shooter – We are popping off the crease, because we want to motion how we can execute a backdoor cut, but changing directions quickly. Always keep your stick up as a target while you are popping, and cutting to the goal
  • Read the Defense!

Progressions

  • set up lines on different areas of the field
