A full field drill that emphasizes step down shots in transition

Set Up

Put 3 lines up top at the midfield line with the balls in the middle. Start with a pass to a wing player who runs down the field with the ball. The middle line wants “get in the ball carriers wake” so they Stay slightly behind them, while the far win is getting down in a nice shooting spot on the wing. As they cross the restraining area, the ball carrier will throw back to middle teammate who will pass quickly to the wing shooter for a step down shot. The Goalie will then pass to the middle player for a 2nd step down shot

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Trail players need to stay back a little to make sure they aren’t running down into a slide
  • The dodger needs to make. good throwback pass
  • Stepdown Shots – Set your feet, get loaded, and shoot hard

Progressions

  • Add a topside exchange with the middle player and backside wing after the first pass. The backside wing become the new trail player, while the middle is the opposite wing shooter
