A great small area game to work on playing in tight spaces and getting high % scoring opportunites
Set Up
Create a box size of 12 x 12 or 15 x 15 using cones. Put the goal on the far lower side (where the crease would be tangent), like shown in diagram. Depending on your personell, we want to get our right handed players on the field where the goal is the lower left, and our lefty on the opposite. Add a coach or another player to the outside of the gameplay area, as a support player. It’s a free play of 3v3, and we want the players to find solutions to get to the middle of the field. Players should use the outlet player, and work on off ball play as well, like ghost cuts and screens. Older players can use picks, younger players can work on just basic shallow cuts and movement to create space for each other
Coaching Points & Principles
- Offense should be finding solutions to get to the middle of the field. When outside teammate has the ball, move and work together to get open
- Defense should be communicating and sliding/switching when necessary
- Use a 15 second shot clock
