Backdoor Passing and Shooting

Set Up

Put a line of players on the low goal line extended with all the balls, and a line of players on the crease. The line with the balls will carry up to the “island” or 5×5. At the same time, the player on the crease will be popping off high like they want a pass supporting their teammate. The player popping will then change direction and cut to the goal like a backdoor cut. The player making the pass, should move to get their hands free, and make a good pass leading their teammate to the crease area. Players will execute an inside crease style finish, think high to low.

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Passer – when they get to the 5×5, make sure they bounce away to act like they are getting their hands free
  • Shooter – We are popping off the crease, because we want to motion how we can execute a backdoor cut, but changing directions quickly. Always keep your stick up as a target while you are popping, and cutting to the goal

Progressions

  • Add in guided defense
  • set up lines on different areas of the field
