3 Player Shooting w/ Cuts

Summary

A good shooting drill to work on 2-player & 3-player game spacing and shooting, especially if you player out of a 1-4-1 or attack from the wing

Set Up

Put a line of players with balls on the wing, a line of players at X, and a line inside on the crease. The drill starts with the player carrying upfield, and the crease player popping off to to fill that space. There will be a throwback pass to the player popping, move the ball to X. The player who originally carried, will now cut to the player driving from X for a catch and finish inside

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Spacing – When a player carries the ball, we want to try and move to fill that space to get the defense to rotate.
  • Throwback passing – we want to make sure we get our hands up and step away to make a good pass throwing the ball in the opposite direction we are running
  • Finishing inside – Cut hard with your stick up, ready to catch and shoot with a fast release
