A great full field transition drill designed by Jamie Munro

Set Up

On both ends of the field, play 5v5. The defense on one end is on the same team as offense on the other end.  One side will play a live game, use a 15-20 second shot clock. Once play ends, the defense must now transition the ball the to other end off the field, but they are unable to cross midline! Use a clearing shot clock as well, 10-15 seconds , this forces the defense clearing and offense on the other end pod the field, work to get open.

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Quick actions – short clock, players need to play fast and create advantages
  • Riding & Clearing – Riders work hard to slow the game game, clearing team Needs to work for space and moving the ball upfield

Progressions

  • Play 4v4 on each end
  • Shrink the field and # of players for younger teams – same rules apply
  • Play 5v4 on each end (This makes it a lot harder for the clearing team)
