Summary

Continuous General is a guided 1v1 dodging drill for developing through advanced players that teaches offensive players to recognize defensive approaches, attack available space, and make quick decisions in game-like situations.

SET UP

Set up players on both wings with one defender in the crease area and a coach with balls at the point. The coach passes to either wing while the defender approaches at an angle as the ball travels. The offensive player catches, reads the defender’s approach, and attacks the available space for a shot. After finishing, the dodger becomes the next defender and approaches the opposite wing as the coach initiates the next rep. Keep the drill continuous, using guided defense rather than full pressure to encourage offensive recognition and decision-making.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Read the Approach: Recognize the defender’s angle and positioning to determine where the available space is.

  • Attack With Purpose: Catch the ball ready to dodge and attack the space the defender gives you.

  • Guide, Don’t Dictate: Defenders should vary their approach angles to create realistic reads, allowing offensive players to recognize and solve the problem rather than execute a predetermined dodge.
