A good passing and clearing drill if you only have half a field

Set Up

Set up six lines on the field with a goalie in the cage. Place one line about 5 yards in front of the goalie, one at the top of the restraining box, one at each high wing, and one in each low defensive corner.

The drill starts with the goalie passing to the nearby outlet player, who breaks toward the sideline. That player passes to the near high-wing player cutting to the middle, who then moves the ball to the opposite high-wing cutter. The ball is then passed to the player at the top of the restraining box, who moves it down to the low corner. Finally, the low corner player throws a long pass across to the opposite low corner, who finishes the sequence by passing back to the goalie.

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Passing – making good passes on the run
  • Moving to the ball, no one should be catching the ball flat footed
  • Communication – Call for the ball

Progressions

  • Add in 2nd ball
