This is a great drill to work on making quick decisions and while this is still an all even game, it leaves gaps for offensive advantages

Set Up

Put 4 offensive players in and 4 defensive players in. Give every defender and offensive players number (1,2,3,4). Make sure the same number doest guard their offensive opponent. Have the offense work the ball around like a normal ball control motion. Coach will designate the numbers who will leave the game. There are 2 ways to activate:

  1. Coach tells the group  before play starts, who leaves the game, and not he whistle they do
    1. “Three” The offense and defense #3 leave the game
  2. Coach yells the number out and those players leave (This can be a challenge if coach isn’t loud enough)

The defense must recognize and support the crease area, knowing there is an open player somewhere on the field, so they are recovering.

The offense must recognize who leaves the game, and then cut to space for support and help

Coaching Points & Principles

  • Defense recovery – Recovery, Bumping to new spots, and protecting the crease area
  • Offense communication and ball movement – the faster we find open space and move the ball, the better chance beating a rotating defense

Progressions
