Wing to Wing Shooting for Goalies with Brooke Eubanks (Cal)

Goalie Wing Shots is a game-like goalie drill for all levels that develops tracking, positioning, and save technique against shots coming from different angles and movements around the 8-meter.

SET UP

Position shooters on one side of the 8-meter, primarily shooting from the elbow up between roughly 10 yards and the top of the 8. Allow shooters to carry down the alley, move toward the middle, or use a hitch before shooting so the goalie must adjust to the ball before making the save. Occasionally mix in closer shots to expose the goalie to different distances and release points.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Track the Ball: Follow the ball through the shooter’s movement and release rather than anticipating where the shot is going.
  • Drive the Hands: Attack the shot with the hands instead of waiting for the ball to reach you.
  • Get Behind the Ball: Move the body with the hands and work to get both feet around the path of the shot.
