Dodge and Pass 1-3-2 Motion Drill

1-3-2 Throw Forward Passing is an offensive skill drill for intermediate through advanced players that develops purposeful V-cuts, north-south dodging, and the ability to step away from pressure and throw the ball forward.

SET UP

Set players in a 1-3-2 offensive formation with the coach starting with the ball. The midfielder makes a purposeful V-cut to receive the pass, squares up with 10 toes forward, and attacks north-south with a split dodge. As the attackman shows for the ball, the midfielder steps away from imaginary pressure, clears their hands, and throws the ball forward. Rotate players through the action and repeat from both sides.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • V-Cut With Purpose: Take the imaginary defender inside, force their hips to turn, then pop out into space to receive the ball.
  • Square Up & Attack: Get 10 toes forward and use a strong north-south dodge rather than drifting across the field.
  • Step Away to Pass: Drive off the inside foot, create separation for your hands, and accurately throw the ball forward when pressure arrives.
