The 2-Player Screen Series is an off-ball action for intermediate through advanced players that uses legal screens, movement, and reads to create separation and generate open shots away from the ball.

SET UP

Set up two offensive players in an alley with the ball coming from X or the opposite high alley. To initiate the up-screen action, the inside player drives their defender in and then works up to make contact with the other player’s defender, creating legal interference away from the ball. The second offensive player works inside-out off the screen and releases wide down the outside. From there, both players become options: if the defense stays with the screener, the outside player can receive the pass; if the defense follows the player coming off the screen, the screener opens toward the goal and finds space in the high/middle alley. The passer reads the defense and delivers the ball to whichever player becomes open.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Make Contact: Don’t turn the screen into a slip. Get into the defender and set a legal screen that creates actual separation for your teammate.
  • Inside-Out & Get Wide: The player using the screen should work inside first, then release hard and wide down the outside to maximize separation.
  • Hit Whoever Is Open: Both players are scoring threats. Read how the defense reacts to the screen rather than predetermining where the pass should go.
