Summary

Conceptual Shooting is a high-repetition offensive warm-up for intermediate through advanced players that combines shooting, ball movement, and off-ball creativity while encouraging players to recognize space and create different scoring opportunities.

SET UP

Set up three lines in an umbrella formation up top and two feeders at low GLE, approximately 10 yards from the cage. Balls start at the point, where the player passes to either wing, follows their pass, and sets a screen. The wing player sweeps off the screen and can shoot or move the ball to the opposite wing. From there, the three offensive players work together to create a shot through cuts, passes, or two-player actions. After the initial shot, the two low GLE feeders find available players for additional shooting opportunities. Encourage variability, including step-down shots, shots on the run, and inside finishes.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Create Different Looks: Avoid repeating the same shot. Mix in sweeps, give-and-go actions, step-downs, and inside finishes to develop different scoring opportunities.

  • Find Space & Move: Off-ball players should continually adjust their positioning, communicate, and create passing options for the ball carrier.

  • Play With Creativity: Give players freedom to make decisions, move the ball, and find solutions rather than following a predetermined shooting pattern.
