Against a 2–2–2, our slide-and-recover system is built on clarity and urgency. We always slide from the closest crease defender, if the dodge comes from above GLE, the high crease player is the first slide; if it comes from below GLE, the low crease player goes. That keeps our rotations short and efficient while protecting the middle. But the slide is only half the job, the recovery is what makes the system work. As soon as help is sent, the defender who got beat must sprint back to the house first, protecting the middle before worrying about their original matchup. From there, we “bump” out, communicating and passing off assignments until everyone is matched up again. Off-ball defenders must be ready to fill, hold, or release based on the next pass, staying compact and connected. The goal is to stop the initial threat without giving up the next one—quick, decisive slides followed by fast, organized recovery that keeps the house protected at all times.
