Step Downs and Alley Shots

A high volume shooting drill that works on step downs and alley dodges. A good shooting drill if you initiate offense with down hill dodges!

Set Up

Split the team into 2 groups, and put one line on the high wing. This will be your alley dodge. Set up another line high wing line and a low wing line on opposite side, this is your step down line. Balls will be in the top lines. The alley dodge will pick up a ball, and attack the alley, working on driving your hips/shoulders through the shot on the run. The attack will receive a pass from their top line, and Geta. step down shot off. Both lines should focus on hitting far side of the cage

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Alley Dodge, get your hips, shoulders, and hand through the shot toward the cage
  • Step Down – Catch the ball loaded set your feet and shoot hard to the far side

Progressions

  • Add in a guided defender to the alley dodger to make the shot harder
