A dodging and shooting drill for younger players to help emphasize playing against pressure.

Set Up

Create a rectangle near goal, about 10 yards long and 5 yards wide. There will be an offensive player with the ball, and a defender playing light defense. The defender is NOT trying to take the ball away, but put pressure on the offensive player using angles. We want the ball carrier to use their body control and roll or drive around the defender. Once they get past the late cone, they will go take a shot. Coach can roll a ball in for the defender to get a shot as well

Coaching Points and Principles

  • Dodging – Focus on stick protection, and working off the pressure the defender is showing. Players can roll dodge to escape pressure
  • Shooting – Finish with a good overhand shot

Progressions

  • Add in more defensive pressure
