Summary

This is a progressive decision-making drill where players work through game like scenarios that flow into a small-sided live rep. It encourages offensive reads, defensive slide & recovery, and quick decisions

Set Up

Offensive players start spread at the top or sides of the box, 1–2 defenders start low, in recovery or help positions. A coach or feeder initiates play with a pass or whistle. We want defenders sliding to help with rotations that cycle quickly after each rep

Coaching Points & Principles

Offense

  • Play with pace: Move the ball quickly and attack space decisively.

  • Read the defender(s): Exploit overcommitment or poor positioning.

  • Off-ball movement: Cut, fade, or relocate to create better angles.

  • Shot discipline: Emphasize location over power; finish under control.

Defense

  • Communicate: Identify threats, call out switches or slides.

  • Positioning: Force dodgers to less dangerous areas (off-hip or below GLE).

  • Stick positioning: Active sticks in passing lanes.

  • Recovery: Sprint into effective help positions post-slide or double.
