Bow Tie Shooting is an offensive timing drill for intermediate through advanced players that develops crease picks, cuts, and feeder footwork against man-to-man defense.
SET UP
Set two players on the crease with a feeder behind the goal. The onside crease player picks for the offside player, who cuts to the cage as the feeder reaches GLE. After setting the pick, the picker cuts backdoor, giving the feeder two options. Start with a single Bow Tie, then progress to a double Bow Tie, where the crease players reset and repeat the action as the feeder rotates to the opposite side.
COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES
- Time the Action: As the feeder’s inside foot reaches GLE, the cutter should be coming off the pick.
- Pick & Backdoor: After setting the pick, immediately cut backdoor to create a second inside option.
- Reset With Eyes Up: On the double Bow Tie, reset while watching the ball and reading the defense rather than simply running the pattern.
