2v2 Phone Booth is a small-area two-man offensive game that develops combination dodging, mirror spacing, and the ability to beat a defender or create an open teammate in a confined space.

SET UP

Create two small “phone booths” at the elbows, with a 2v2 set up inside each area, and alternate which side is active. Begin without picks, emphasizing mirror spacing and two-man movement. On the first whistle, the ball carrier works through combination dodges, using pump fakes and changes of direction while the off-ball player maintains good mirror spacing. On the second whistle, the game becomes live and the ball carrier must beat their defender inside the phone booth. The offense can win in two ways: beat the on-ball defender cleanly and escape the space, or draw the off-ball defender and find the open teammate. If the ball carrier exits the phone booth while their defender is still attached and engaged, the rep is dead.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Beat Your Defender in the Box: Use combination dodges, changes of direction, and moves like the hostage dodge to create separation before leaving the confined area.
  • Maintain Mirror Spacing: The off-ball player should move in relation to the ball carrier, maintaining enough space to punish a defender who leaves to help.
  • Play With Your Head Up: Protect your stick while dodging, but keep your eyes up to recognize when the off-ball defender commits and your teammate becomes open.
