JT Double is a controlled 4v4 defensive drill for intermediate through advanced players that develops double-team technique, slide communication, and the ability to push defenders into the correct positions before applying pressure.

SET UP

Set up a controlled 4v4 with the ball starting behind or from a designated area. As the offense moves the ball, the defense works on push slides, with the lowest defender initiating the rotation and pushing each adjacent defender toward the double. Rotate players through every position and vary where the ball starts to work different slide locations.

COACHING POINTS & PRINCIPLES

  • Push, Don’t Pull: Initiate rotations from behind the play so each defender is pushed into their next responsibility rather than reacting late.
  • Shut Off, Then Double: Get the adjacent outlets covered before committing to the double to eliminate easy escape passes.
  • Communicate the Rotation: Every defender should be talking—calling the push, identifying responsibilities, and helping teammates arrive in the correct position.
